Buzz, buzz, buzz, my phone vibrated, alerting me that it was 5:30am. God, why did I stay up so late and watch a movie? I felt something hard beside me and realized Kelly was still there. I shut off my phone and quietly got out of bed. I still had my joggers on so I just grabbed a sports bra. It was going to be a nice day and I needed to let out some pent-up frustration. Grabbing my shoes, I tiptoed out of the room and made my way to the front door. Hopefully, I am by myself this morning for a run. Stepping outside, the sun was starting to rise. It was a little crisp still this morning. I quickly put my shoes on and started jogging. I really didn’t know where to, but I just let my mind go blank. I didn’t think about anything. I focused on the birds chirping, the pounding sound of my shoes hitting the dirty floor. My breath is controlled by going into my nose and out my mouth. I kept my arms at my side and kept my stride long. Running was a necessary evil. Hearing a water fall, I slowed my pace and walked up to it.
It was so nice and peaceful here. I sat down on a rock that was overlooking the water. My only choice in this is to stay strong. I feel like my life is going to change after reading the prophesies. Is one really made about me? Why me though? Why not Kelly or Ashley? What is so special about me and why did my parents not tell me about this? Did they even know? I don’t feel like I even had a chance to breathe since all this happened. This was supposed to be a vacation, but now it is like destiny had other plans. If I had stayed in my pack, would any of this happen? I doubt Zach would have ever met Brooke. Just them makes me feel like I am on the right path and at least something good has happened.
The sun was fully risen now and I wanted to punch something, so I got up and made my way back to the pack house. I am pretty sure there is a gym there somewhere. I ran a little slower this time back and I let my mind wonder. Even if I read the prophesy that is about me, would I even know it? I wonder if there is a book on the original family. Zach is a history nerd. Maybe he will know something I don’t.
I slowed to a walk when I got within eyesight of the packhouse and slowly made my way to the front. Luckily, there was a teenage boy lounging by the front door.
“Do you know where the weight room or gym is?” I asked him.
He looked at me curiously, “Very back of the house, easier to go around the house. Follow that path” he spoke quietly.
“Thank you!” I said and made my way following the path. It first led to a beautiful garden. Full of spring flowers like liilies and irises. So many pinks, purple and yellows. There was a small shrub maze that led to a bench in the middle of the garden. From this view, you can see the whole garden, parkhouse and into the back yard. Currently, the back yard is full of warriors training. As much as I wanted to sit and watch a lot of muscular men train, I needed to hit something. I kept walking and found a door. I opened it slowly and peaked in. Thankfully, I found the weight room. It was big and updated from the looks of things. I saw a punching bag in the back and made my way around to it. Below the bag is some tape. I managed to tape my knuckles up and started punching.
This is for my dad! This is for my mom! I was screaming in my head all the pain I was feeling and letting it go through my fist. My parent’s death, my lost boyfriend, my ex-best friend, my home states away, this stupid prophesy, no clothes, no family. Hit after hit I swung. I was drenched in sweat before someone pulled me off of the bag.
“Nina!! Girl, you need to stop before you break your hand. Let me see them. I will grab some ice. Tell me what’s wrong!” Zach yelled in my face. His hands were gripping my shoulders. He let go of me when he knew I was focusing on him and grabbed some ice.
This must happen a lot for them to have an ice machine in the weight room. Zach led me to some mats on the floor and he began stretching as I iced my hands. My back was against the wall and my legs were straight out crossed. I had one bag of ice in each hand on either side of me. Now he has made me stop, my hands are throbbing but, thanks to my quick healing, I should be fine in a couple hours.
“How is Brooke?” I asked.
“ Better, she came out of her coma early this morning. She has some visitors right now so I decided to find you and figure out what you have been doing.”
So, I told him everything. I told him about the rogues, the interrogation, the supposed prophesy. I decided not to tell him about the original family because I wanted to see what he knew first.
“You’re a history buff, tell me what you know about wolves with abilities?” I asked.
Zach looked taken aback for a second, “Well, they are splattered all over our history. It is not very common knowledge because everyone who had abilities were killed due to fear they would use it to kill everyone else. Supposably there was a daughter of someone who was killed that managed to escape a cell. She was only like 12-13 years old and they never found her body but believed she died since no one ever came forth to claim their blood line. That was like 100 years ago though. It was all rumor though; I was never able to find any documentation of it though. I think they used to rule the land and were incredibly strong but were eventually killed off. Since then, there has been more wars and fighting documented in history than before.”
“How does someone know what bloodline they are from?”
“Blood test, or when you mark your mate, the mark will be of the family crest. If your family didn’t have a crest, it would still be similar to your parents' but still unique. Most people wait for their mark because the blood test gets put on a data base for everyone to see.”
“So, let’s say, I had blood drawn at our old pack to see what blood type I had so I could donate blood. Would that be put into a data base for everyone to see?”
“Well, yes. It is a universal data base, so no matter what pack you are in, they can all see your blood makeup and in return your DNA.” Zach looked at me weirdly, “Why do you ask?”
I finished telling him about the prophesy and about the original family, the rogues thinking I am part of a prophesy. “What if I am part of that family and I am the last member of them? What if when I gave my blood for that donation someone realized who I am and is out to kill me?”
After saying that, it just felt like it clicked. I knew deep in my heart that what I was saying was correct. I was the last descendant to that family. The only heir and it would be my right to take place as a queen. The realization hit me and I got a sinking feeling in the pit of my stomach. What if my mate doesn’t accept me, I will never get my full powers and thus will never be able to defend myself against these people?
Zach was quiet for a minute, thinking hard. “Jeez Nina, you sure know how to keep life interesting”, he said with a smile.
“Promise me you will not tell anyone about this? This is my secret and my burden to bear. I don’t want to get thrown out of this pack. I am starting to like it here.” I said quietly.
“I promise Nina, I will always have your back.”
“Good!” I said, the ice had already melted and my sweat had dried. I was in need of a shower. “I am going to go shower and do some online shopping. Need anything?”
“Naw, I am good. See you around! And please stop by to see Brooke, she wanted to thank you for saving her.” Zach said. I nodded and walked outside. I followed the path back up to the front door and made my way to my room.
My shower was nice and hot, massaging all my achy muscles. I sat down in the shower and let the water hit me. For some reason, I didn’t feel as overwhelmed as I did before. If this is my destiny, then I need to see it through. I only hope my mate, whoever he is, will stand beside me.
Finally, I stood up and turned the water off. I grabbed a towel and walked out to my bedroom. Apparently, Kelly or someone came in and made the bed with fresh sheets and did my laundry as it was nicely stacked on the bed. The blood didn’t come out of my pink pair, so it will be trashed. Grabbing a pair of leggings and a tank top with a built-in bra, I grabbed my phone and made my way to the balcony. Time to do some shopping.
