*Liam POV*
She's awake. I wanted to run to her, but I just stood there dumbfounded. I heard her acknowledge us as her mates and I turned to Loki. He nodded his head and we started through the door. We froze in place when we heard Rebecca clear her throat. "Uh Mel, meet my brothers, Loki is the one with the shorter hair, and Liam is the one with the longer hair. They are your mates, Mel." She explained. A bashful smile formed on our mate's gorgeous face and she started to fidget with her fingers.
"H..hi, it's ni..nice to meet you. Thank,,,thank you for taking us in, and making sure we were safe. I also appreciate you allowing me to receive medical care when I'm not a member of your pack." She said. She was stumbling over her words, showing how nervous she was, and I couldn't help but find it adorable. I asked her If I could sit next to her and she nodded her head, and asked if Loki would sit with her too. I sat with her on her bed, and Loki sat in the chair next to us.
"Melian? Right?" I asked and she nodded. "It's our pleasure to help. We weren't expecting to find our mate in such a circumstance, but I assure you, we are excited about meeting you. I want you to know that we are willing to take things at your pace, OK? There is no rush, and we don't want you to feel obligated to rush anything. Loki and I are not going to reject you, right Loki?" I said, looking over at my brother. He went to hold her hand and she flinched.
He started to pull his hand back and apologize, but she stopped him from moving it back. She grabbed his hand and smiled. Giving her a slight smile, he said, "Liam is right, this is going to be an adjustment for us all, and you have been through some shit girl. Things we will help you through all the way. We are one unit, and you will never have to be afraid of anything ever again."
she smiled again and we just sat in silence. Rebecca stepped out into the hall to give us some privacy, and once she was gone Melian started to tear up. "What's wrong sweetheart?" I asked her. She shook her head and said that it was silly. "No, if it causes you to cry, it's not silly. Talk to us." After thinking about it briefly, she nodded and started to explain.
"I'm damaged goods. Like really damaged. I don't know what Dr. Flores has told you both, but I have to have several surgeries to, um...repair things on me. I don't remember any of what happened to me that night, but I do know that it wasn't nice. You are both Alpha's. How can you have a Luna that is broken into millions of pieces on the inside? If you rejected me, I couldn't blame you. I'm really nothing special at all, and you two are so much better than I deserve." She poured her heart out to us, and my heart broke for her.
I could tell Loki was getting pissed, and I linked him and told him to control his anger. She was already scared enough. I could understand him being pissed at what those idiots did to her, but he needed to channel that anger on someone else. Linking me back, he said, "She is going to reject us, Liam! We just sat there and promised her that we weren't going to reject her under any circumstances. I feel it though, bro, she is going to reject us." I shook my head at him and told him that wasn't going to happen.
She is just overthinking because of her traumatic mindset. She squeezed Loki's hand and tried to hold mine with her bad hand. Tears were still falling and her sobs getting harder. She asked us one of the most important tasks we could ever handle. "Liam. Loki. I don't want to reject you either, but I need something very important from you. I need to see a therapist. It's important to my recovery and healing. Could you both come with me, ya know, as support? I don't think I could do it alone. I know that we just met, but I feel completely comfortable with you and know I can trust you. The moon goddess herself told me I could, and that I need to let you both help me."
Loki and I looked at each other and Loki answered her first. "Mel. Is it OK if I call you Mel?" She nodded and said she preferred Mel over Melian. "Did you say the moon goddess told you to trust us?" he asked. She nodded and said that while she was unconscious the moon goddess came to her with her wolf, and told her to trust us, that we would be the ones to help her heal.
Loki's eyes widened and I turned to her to say, "Wow, that is pretty special. I can't speak for Loki, but I know that I will be there for you and help you with whatever you need. Even when things get hard. I know of someone you can speak to, and she is completely trustworthy. You will love her." She thanked me and said she knew she had to wait until her procedures were over before she could start, but needed to get that conversation out of the way. She may have only just turned 18 hours ago, but she was beyond mature for her age.
She and I sat and made small talk, trying to get to know one another. Loki had been weirdly quiet. Even for him. He hadn't looked her way, or mine for that matter, for a really long time. Out of nowhere, he stood up and stormed towards the door. Just before he reached it, the door opened with Jason and Rebecca bringing Mel some food. Loki pushed passed them and left without saying a word. Rebecca hollered his way but he didn't look back, and proceeded to exit the hospital. She looked at me and said, "What the hell was that all about?" Mel started to tear up again and I shrugged my shoulders. What in the hell is he doing?
