Chapter 17
"I'm also wondering what you saw in Jessica, Mr. Davison. Are you blind?"
Lucas questioned back when Hari hurriedly nudged him.
Lucas turned around, feeling quite annoyed, only to see Jessica coming back toward the nightclub. Lucas couldn't help but frown.
Jessica returned because she forgot some of her belongings at Mona's place. Thus, she returned to get her stuff back. She then happened to hear what Lucas said about her.
The moment Jessica heard what Lucas said, she felt a sting in her chest.
In their three—year marriage, Jessica believed she had done a great job as Mrs. Thomas, even though the Thomas family never stopped picking on her.
Soon Jessica pulled herself together. She walked into the nightclub with her face unchanged.
Terry then chuckled. "Everyone has their own taste. The way I see it, Miss Hall is excellent. Hopefully, she will be the future Mrs. Davison."
With that, Terry bowed slightly at Lucas and Hari before he left.
Seeing Terry driving off, Hari frowned at Lucas and said, "Wasn't that too much? I mean what you said about Jessica."
Lucas turned to Hari and said coldly, "Go away."
"You are such a bastard!" Hari glared at Lucas fiercely, then got into his car, leaving immediately.
Lucas lit a cigarette with his head lowered. As the smoke rose, he felt less grumpy and gradually calmed down.
Lucas didn't know what was troubling him.
The next day, as soon as Jessica arrived at the company, she received a call from her superior, Megan. He asked Jessica to meet him in his office.
"Jessica, I have faith in your capability, but I think you need to have a second thought on this contract." Megan presented the contract Jessica submitted, which only needs Megan's signature.
"Mr. Bell, I think the Puth Corporation is more than capable of the project." Jessica glanced at the contract. It was the one between the Hall Group and the Puth Corporation.
"I don't doubt that. However, the Borka Group has been our partner for many years and they have been doing a great job. I don't want the industry to judge our company because we change our partner for no reason," Megan said as he stroked his chin as if he was thinking.
Jessica sneered secretly. She had already foreseen that Megan would not easily give up on the cooperation with the Borka Group. Thus, Jessica put down a document on Megan's desk.
"Mr. Bell, here's a report I've been working on recently. I intended to submit it to the headquarters, but I'd like you to have a look now. It can erase your concerns for the moment."
Megan glanced at Jessica suspiciously and then picked up the report. As he read it, his face darkened.
The report featured a pile of evidence of Watson bribing the former general manager of the Hall Group. It also proved that the Borka Group should be held responsible for several problems that occurred in the Hall Group's projects.
"Jessica, where did you get the material?" Megan felt quite nervous after reading the report.
"I certainly have my own approaches." Jessica smiled and said, "Mr. Bell, I think the report provides a sound reason why we changed our partner, right?"
"Sure, sure." Megan put down the report and then signed his name on the contract. He then handed the contract to Jessica and said, "The company's profits must come first. We can't choose such a company as our partner."
Jessica left Megan's office with the signed contract. She knew that Megan must be feeling extremely anxious at the moment.
After all, Megan might lose his job if the headquarters had the report.
Jessica snorted. Megan asked for it. That was what he deserved since he played tricks on Jessica together with Watson.
Jessica returned to her own office and started her work. She received a phone call from Hannah during lunch break.
"Jessica, long time no see. Shall we have lunch together?"
"Hannah, we just met last night." Jessica rubbed her forehead.
"Fine then. Well, my point is ... Do you know that Terry seems to be chasing you?" Hannah said.
"I do. He sent me flowers again today." Jessica glanced at the bouquet in the trash can and said, "But I'm not interested."
