Chapter 29 - Rejecting A Wolf

Rushing into Jace's room, Henry was the first to burst through the door followed by Jason and Hailey the trio rushed into the room and headed straight to the bathroom.

Jace was curled up on the floor, the ground beneath him wet with his sweat. Henry immediately moved and touched his brother who flinch away from his touch.

"Dad! What do we do?" Henry turned and asked his father, unsure of where to place his hands. "I don't think we can touch him right now!"

Jason stops there contemplating he too was unsure of what to do so he did the most logical thing he could.

He mind-linked the head doctor. 'Nailah we have a problem.'

"Dad! What do we do?" Henry screamed at Jason after noticing his father didn't instantly reply to him.

"Just wait!" Jason ordered, "Don't touch him, okay?"

'What Is it? 'Nailah's reply came in a few seconds after Jason replied to Henry.

'It's Jace...' Jason felt like he should say anymore, he could hear Nailiah sighing through the mind link.

'Okay you'll need to bring him, Aurora also fell sick.' She informed him before cutting off the mind link.

"Get the car ready Hailey we going to the pack hospital," Jason told his mate who rushed to get the car before turning to Henry, "Help me with him."

Henry and Jason both grabbed onto Jace and slung his arms around their shoulders as they carefully exited the bathroom into his bedroom to the hallway.

The father and son duo supported Jacw downstairs and into the car. Hailey locked the door and they were on their way rushing to the hospital.

Each one of them with deep frowns prayed that somehow they had a way to help Jace.

Meanwhile, the Maddox family was rushing into the hospital, The Dale family was already pacing circles in Nailiah's office.

Aiden nervously bit his finger as he paced up and down. Cherise was equally uneasy as she could feel his distress through the mate bond.

"Aiden, you need to relax a bit this isn't healthy." Cherise couldn't help but tell him. "Maybe Rory got a human sickness after all she is almost human now."

Aiden stopped pacing and wrapped his arms around himself solemnly before firmly saying to Cherise. "She's not human."

Cherise was taken aback, his tone was flat but she could tell. Aiden was angry, angry because she said Aurora was human. Displeased, Cherise turned her head away and didn't speak again.

The silence was hung awkwardly among them as none spoke again, it was until the door to the other room opened revealing the grim face Nailiah.

"She's alright you can go in now," Nailiah told the couple who went inside the other room quickly. Sighing heavily Nailiah went to her desk sitting down as she rubbed her aching forehead.

'A common illness among humans, the common cold. Her body is weaker than the average human too.' Nailiah massaged her aching forehead.'Then there's whatever is wrong with Jace.'

It was stressful, how can anything be so damn annoying like so? But whether she like it or not, they were all in it together now.

"Fucking bullshit!" Aiden cursed as he heard his parent's explanation. "She is a full-blooded alpha wolf even if she lost her wolf it should be impossible for her to be so weak."

"You need to calm down," Anderson told Aiden in a low tone. Aiden's jaw ticked but he complied and shut his mouth to calm down.

"I understand that this might be hard for you, it's hard for us too. Seeing her like this, this weak. But we'll learn from our mistakes and keep the house warm and Rory dressed in warm clothes. We mustn't try to smother her more." Renee said, Anderson, nodded his head in agreement.

They were going about this rejection thing the wrong way and the only way to fix it is to listen to what Aurora wanted.

Whether she wanted good or bad, she had to choose for herself. All they had to do was cushion the blow.

They couldn't protect Aurora from herself, just like how Anderson couldn't protect his sister Anya. They were almost making the same mistakes that Anderson and his family made with Anya.

"All we need to do is be here for her, this process is hard for us so imagine how it is for her?" Anderson looked at the three of them as he said this.

Everyone fell silent and then they all looked at Aurora. Her face was pale, her chest rising and falling slowly. She was covered by a blanket her hands placed on her stomach and an IV drip hooked up to her arm.

She looked so fragile as if she would break if at the slightest touch. The unfairness of this made them feel like their mouths were filled with bitterness.

As the family was depressed, Jason and Henry both carried Jace into the pack hospital. Steering clear of all wolves, staff included as they made their way up to Nailiah's office.

Seeing the hurry in Nailiah sighed as she placed her hands on the desk and used it to help her stand up.

"Bring him in here, Be aware you're not the only ones here, "Nailiah told them as she ushered them into the room. "Lay him on the bed."

"Anderson," Jason nodded his head at Anderson as he greeted him before adding. "And family."

Nothing was said after that as Jace was laid on the bed to receive treatment. The only thing heard was the grunt and groans of pain.

And as Nailiah examed him, "Jace can you hear me?"

Jace opened his eyes and looked at Nailiah, seeing the pain in his eyes made her heart squeeze. 'This boy, ruined by selfishness.' She thought to herself.

"Tell you point where hurts?" Nailiah asked him, Jace couldn't answer her even if he wanted to nor could he raise his arm to gesture.

"Just give him pain medication," Anderson spoke up after Jace neither spoke nor moved. "It's almost time for his last shift. It might happen in two days maybe three."

"How do you know?" Jason asked Anderson, from his tone it could be heard that Jason was not believing him.

"You can believe me or not, it doesn't change the fact that Jace is in an enormous amount of pain due to his wolf no longer having the strength to block out the other half of the pain."Anderson explained, " Just give him pain medication but be careful not to give him too much."

"I think we should heed his advice, look at Jace he's clearly in pain," Hailey exclaimed, Jason, took a moment to think about it and then agreed.

He would have suspected something was wrong if Anderson did not timely remind them about not giving Jace too much of the pain medication

"Okay, everyone get out. Go home and try and get rest, I'll stay with the kids so don't worry." Nailiah rubbed her aching forehead and told them.

The two families looked at Nailah, the hairs on her body stood at the end with the looks they gave her. A scowl crept up on her face.

"et me do my job. Put away your reluctance and hostility. What can I do to them that's worse than what's happening to them?" Nailiah said through gritted teeth.

This left the Dale and Maddox family with no other option but to leave their children in the care of Nailiah.

After they left Nailiah carefully checked on them before she left the room to go to her office to rest on the sofa.

Several hours passed, and Nailiah periodically came in and checked on them. Jace's pain became bearable, while Aurora's fever went down. Making the older woman sigh in relief.

Not long after Nailiah left the room again Aurora woke up. Jace silently watched her face scrunch in confusion before coming to a realization.

Aurora was shocked to wake up and none of her family members were by her side. She looked around and finally took notice of the pale young man in the bed next to hers.

He looked so different from her memory, he was still handsome. His black hair tossed messily on his head, and his dark eyes were empty. He lost a lot of weight, yet it only made his sharp jawline sharper.

He looked like a sickly pretty boy with eyelashes long and curly it almost made Aurora jealous. Almost.

"Hi, I'm Aurora." she croaked, her throat was extremely parched as she did have a high fever most of the night.

"I'm Jace," He replied slowly because of the pain, the pair looked at each other in silence. They only looked at each other, studying each other in this silence.

Nothing was said but each of the teens knew, in fact, they knew better than anyone else. Slowly their lips curled into half smiles.
