Chapter 37 - Rejecting A Wolf

"Rory, I...." Just as Aiden opened his mouth to talk to Aurora, she opened the car door and jumped out. Slamming the door behind her. She didn't even glance in Hailey's direction as she went inside.

A rude action as she was entering the house, but after what they did, Hailey could only bitterly watch.

Two days went by since the families informed Jace and Aurora they needed to leave.

Aurora hasn't spoken more than three words to her family while Jace had said none. He even goes as far as to starve himself, leaving Hailey and Jason helpless.

They could only ask Anderson to send Aurora over. Maybe he'll eat something if she comes over. Is what they had hoped.

Aurora was happy to leave that suffocating house, but after thinking about it. Jace's situation might be a bit worse.

Jace was struggling before, but now he was just suffering. He was taught to be this understanding person who puts the pack's interest first, but with how their parents dealt with the situation, it hurt him more deeply.

He never thought his parents would choose the pack over him. Everything he knew shifted, and all the relationships he had crumbled to dust.

After the anger passed, all he felt was pain. Jace was on the constant verge of the abyss.

Hailey waved at Aiden, who waved back before backing out of the driveway.

"I need to go to work now Henry, do make sure your brother eats, okay?" Hailey sighed, and Henry just shifted uncomfortably.

"Okay," Henry mumbled. He wanted to tell her it was meaningless. That even if he went and tried to get Jace to eat, he'd just throw anything near him to make Henry leave.

Hailey looked at her youngest son once more before she left the house. Henry then went to the living room and sat down, taking a book and leaving it open on his lap as he daydream.

Aurora came downstairs with Jace in tow after thirty minutes. Henry heard the noise and turned his gaze to meet Jace's. Henry flinched and looked away.

Aurora tugged Jace towards the kitchen, but he tugged her towards his little brother.

"Why don't you go for a run?" Jace suggested Henry's mouth open in shock as he looked at Aurora and Jace funnily.

"You, eh um, you're talking to me." Henry stammered.

"You had no fault, I'm sorry I've been hard on you, bud."Jace smiled slightly and softened his voice. Jace hesitated, but in the end, he fluffed his little brother's hair.

"Okay! It's almost two, I'll go at four, is that okay?" Henry perked up after Jace did that and asked. Jace nodded with the same slight smile.

"Cool, mom will be back at seven anyways," Henry nodded and told Jace. Jace didn't say anything he only nodded and turned to go to the kitchen.

All the friendliness he had was gone in an instant. Aurora raised her eyebrow at him in a questioning manner.

'Did he just pretend to be nice to get Henry out of the house?' Aurora thought to herself.

Aurora thought about it and wondered if she could do that. No, it was impossible to do that, especially with the new baby. Her mom won't leave the house.

"Why'd you ask him to do that?" Aurora asked Jace. Jace pulled Aurora into the kitchen before putting her in a chair to sit before he answered.

"I'll let you know later," Jace told her, and she didn't question him anymore on the matter.

Jace rummaged through the fridge and found leftovers. He reheated them, grabbed two forks, and together Aurora and Jace ate what they could.

They then went back upstairs to Jace's room, where he went to have a shower while Aurora lay on his unmade bed.

When Jace finished his shower, Aurora patted the bed where he came and lay beside her.

They lay side by side, facing the ceiling with nothing to say. There was no way to describe their feelings with words.

Words would do them no justice. Hatred, the pain, the suffering. No words could describe their emotions.

Aurora moved she took Jace's hand in hers and squeezed it tight. That's how Henry found them when he knocked on the door and entered to tell them he was leaving now.

The two older teens got off the bed and walked Henry downstairs, Jace was especially attentive. Acting like a caring older brother

Henry was so happy that he completely looked over that huge red flag and left promising to be back by six.

Little did Henry know the horror show he'd be walking back into.

"Okay, tell me what you are planning because I'm all for it," Aurora said as Henry disappeared into the treeline.

"Come," Jace pulled Aurora from the porch into the house and closed the door. He pressed Aurora against the door and leaned in close. "What if I told you I want to have sex with you?"

"What?" Aurora's eyes widened not because of his sudden forwardness but because his warm lips were pressed against her lightly.

"It doesn't have to be now, I'd just want the first person I had sex with to be you. In some way, it'll feel like we're getting back at Alaric and Maya." Jace hurriedly pulled back, creating distance between the two of them.

Aurora absent-mindedly touched her lips and looked at Jace, who was smiling at her slyly.

"Aren't you supposed to be depressed?" Aurora blurted out.

"I am depressed aren't you?" Jace swiftly answered. "But I get to be depressed with you, which in my book is a win. We don't need our crappy families or this fucked up pack. We just need each other, because let's face it. In a few days, that's all we'll have."

"We'll have an old witch watching over us." Aurora pointed out.

"Not if we ditch the old bitch, and disappear. Wouldn't that be the greatest revenge?" Aurora laughed out loud after hearing him say that.

"So that's why you been silent. You were thinking of ways to get revenge! Give me more details!" Aurora grabbed Jace's wrist and pulled him towards the living room where Jace and Aurora planned out their revenge on their parents.

An hour later, Aurora and Jace were almost completely down with a foolproof plan.

"So we agree right, we stage it to look as if we died or got kidnapped or something."Aurora looked up from her phone to see Jace staring at her with a sad smile. "What is it?"

"I just think Jut would have tried to fight my dad to death for what he is putting me through," Jace told Aurora. "What would have she done?"

"Ren was snarky. She would have wanted to bite my dad's balls off." Aurora replied, and suddenly, the two of them were bawling their eyes out on the couch in each other's arms.

The two of them went from having it all to having nothing at all. No friends but each other, no families, no mates, no packs, and no wolves.

After they cried it out, Aurora and Jace just held each other. There was nothing sexual about this, to be honest sex was the last thing on their minds but from an outsider's perspective. Aurora and Jace were cuddling like a couple.

Especially when Aurora lay between Jace's legs and Jace hugged her back to the front of his body.

Jace's suggestion of sex was just that, a string no attached deal. Just to get back at Alaric and Maya this way.

Alaric or his wolf Devin had been watching them this entire time snapped. Devin calmly walked into the house, closed the door behind him as if he lived there, and walked into the living room. Aurora and Jace's backs were turned to the entryway, so they only heard the footsteps they assumed it was Henry coming back early.

"You're back so early?" Aurora and Jace both turned to see Alaric standing there silently.

Jace body tensed up immediately, He pushed off the couch in a swift motion. Taking Aurora, he pushed her behind his back.

"You are not welcome here! Get the hell out of my house!" Devin didn't respond he just stood there and tilted his head.

"Why are you here you son a bitch get out now!" Aurora peeked from behind Jace and screamed at Alaric.

"Move!" One word was all he said. It sent shivers down their spines. Aurora's hand immediately gripped Jace's t-shirt.

"Mine!" he growled, taking a step forward, sending Jace and Aurora into a panic. They weren't idiots, They knew they were talking to Alaric but his wolf.

"Leave Devin, she is not yours! " Jace, although panicked, he made sure to cover Aurora's body with his.

'Crack!'

"OH, MY GOD! What the fuck is that?" Jace watched as Alaric body shifted into what could be described as a monster.

It stood on its hind legs, taller than them. Its body and head were of a wolf but its legs weren't.

The front legs extended like arms. Alaric had fucking arms! Nothing prepared them, especially Aurora, who froze at the sight of this monstrosity.

The dreams, the nightmares she had been having. When the monster kills her, she never sees it clearly, but with this monster, she saw everything clearly now.

It wasn't just dreams. It was a premonition of her death!

"Run!" Aurora screamed, she tugged Jace by his t-shirt as that monster lunged at them narrowly, escaping its jaws.

They weren't lucky this time, well Jace wasn't. The monster didn't even give them time to think as it lunged forward again.

But this time, Jace used all the strength in his body and pushed Aurora towards the door.

"Run Rory! Run!" He screamed as the monster slammed into him, The wind got knocked out of him as the monster pinned him against the wall with its jaws.

Aurora screamed, "Jaceeeeeee!"

The monster moved as if Jace were a toy. it shook its head vigorously from side to side.

Blood sprayed. And Jace was flung across the room. The monster's sight was never on Jace, it was on Aurora.

But Luckily Aurora rolled out of the way and dodged him once more. But her luck has run out. When the monster charge it charged on all fours like a wolf.

But it seemed to realize it didn't have to do that anymore. Aurora didn't pay attention to the monster suddenly stopping to stand up on its hind legs. Instead, she moved to rush to Jace who was lying against the wall.

Jace blinked as if he couldn't believe it. He touched the wound in disbelief, he then looked up to see Aurora scrambling to get to him but right behind her was that monster.

As she touched him, the monster grabbed her legs and tugged her backward.

"Jace!" Aurora screamed, her hands trying to grab onto something, anything. "No!"

She kicked her legs struggling to get away, praying to get away. The only person that could help her was lying there on his last legs.

'Snap!' the monster snapped Aurora's leg like it was a stick. The suddenness of this action made her pause in her struggle, allowing it to grab Aurora and toss her over his shoulder before turning and rushing out of the house.

When Aurora's senses returned to her, she could do nothing but beat on the monster's body in panic as she tried to wiggle out of its grasp.

"Ror!"Jace saw this happening, and despite knowing he shouldn't move, he wanted to save Aurora. but as he moved, the blood came pouring out of him.

Blood gushed out of his mouth and nose, choking him! Jace vision blurred. He was going to die. He was going to die, and the last thing he would ever hear would be the terrified shrill screams of Aurora calling his name.

Aurora witnessed everything. She screamed and screamed his name even as the house disappeared from her sight. She kept screaming his name, and she refused to believe it.

He just couldn't, they was no way! Jace wasn't dead.
