Kent, Jason, and Anderson all sat in Kent's office at the pack house. The three men all had grim expressions.
Whatever they decided tonight will decide the future of Aurora and Jace's lives.
"What are we going to do? We should have dealt with this earlier," Jason said worriedly, "This is unfair to Aurora and Jace."
"What else were we supposed to do? Alaric and Maya's matters needed to be addressed first. But now we need to fix this rumor problem. " Kent gave Jason a pointed look. Jason was not happy that his son was given the back peddle but the well-being of one individual will never Trump the well-being of the pack.
"Well, we need to decide how we are going to deal with this. Jace was the future beta so the rumors are more surrounding him." Anderson told them. "Aurora can be 'mated' outside the pack but Jace cannot."
"So that's the story you're going with? That Aurora is mated with someone outside. You know that means she can't stay in the pack long-term, right?" Kent asked Anderson who nodded grimly.
"We also can't risk us leaving the pack as a family. Some perceptive person can guess what's wrong, so at least for now, we need to let Aurora go on her own. This would also apply to Jace. Sending them out the pack together is the best option "Anderson said making the two men nod in understanding.
"That settles Aurora's disappearance. The hard part is Jace." Kent said, he looked at Jason who shifted his gaze awkwardly.
"While Henry needs to more aggressively show ambition we need to craft a story about Jace," Anderson said and the two men nod in agreement to his statement.
Jace is not one to fight with his brother over the title so he can give it up but Henry needs to show more incentive. while this fixes the succession problem this won't explain why nobody sees him
"So we kill him," Kent stated, Jason, looked at Kent heavily before he forced himself to nod. Anderson shifted uncomfortably in his seat but also nodded. "Well we have figured out this, now let's make these situations airtight."
"But where are we going to send them? We can't send them any other pack that defeats the purpose of us hiding this." Jason said.
"I think the obvious answer is the best. The humans, Jace and Aurora are basically human so sending them to the human society Is the safest way." Anderson said, answering Jason's concerns.
"Humans are unpredictable, plus those bloodsuckers live amongst them." Jason's face twisted in disgust at the mention of vampires.
"Witches also live in covers in human society. Morel is also one of those witches. She'll take care of them. Besides vampires don't stick their noses in other supernatural beings' business." Anderson thought for a second then suggested.
"I don't know, humans are dangerous because of their curiosity about the unknown." Jason was still hesitant.
"Listen to Anderson, this is a good idea. Having a witch sheltering them they would be safe from the prying eyes of the council." Kent agreed with Anderson's suggestion.
"Morel hates the council, she'll protect them." Kent and Anderson peered at Jason patiently. Only after Jason carefully thought about it, with a sigh he gave them a heavy nod.
"Okay then let's finalize everything." Kent nodded and the three began to make the plans airtight.
A few hours passed by and the three men went their separate ways. Jason and Anderson both went to the pack hospital to see the children while Kent went home.
Kent yawned, tears welling up in his eyes. He was dead tired. As he opened the front door and closed it behind him when he heard footsteps coming his way.
"Dad I need to talk to you." Alaric cautiously walked up to Kent. Kent didn't have the energy to deal with Alaric, to be honest. But he couldn't ignore the boy completely.
"Alright follow me, but make it quick I'm very tired." Alaric and Kent go to Kent's study in the house.
Kent could see that Alaric was uneasy, it tug at his heartstrings but after thinking about everything that has happened. His face could help but harden.
"So talk, " Kent said after he sat in his chair. Alaric who sat in front of him fidgeted in his seat.
"I've disappointed you, dad. It's not about breaking taboos nor is it about anybody else. It is about me and about the fact I tried repeatedly to downplay my fault." Alaric said softly. "I did it."
"Get to the point," Kent tiredly sighed, he didn't have the energy to hear Alaric's rambling but still stayed.
"Mom believes me but you don't, because you know me better. I never do anything unless I'm sure. I purposely got Maya pregnant and all I have been doing these past few weeks is playing the victim when I'm not." Alaric looked his father in the eyes and admitted.
"So you do know, alright then. And you think your mother doesn't know? Don't be naive she knows, she just doesn't care. You can do no wrong in her eyes." Kent told him flatly after giving him deadpan look.
"I'm sorry dad. Truly I am sorry." Alaric cast his eyes to his lap. Whether it was to hide his emotions or because he was too ashamed to meet his father's gaze, only Alaric would know.
"Well it ain't me you are supposed to apologize to," Kent grimaced before standing up. His meaning was clear the conversation was over but Alaric wasn't done this wasn't what he wanted to talk about.
"Dad I need to talk to you it's important."Alaric quickly stopped Kent.
"Alaric, whatever it is the problem will still be there tomorrow, I'm tired okay I think I had enough for tonight." Kent sidestepped Alaric and made his way to the door after telling the boy.
"Dad! Please I really need to talk to you! You see it me....." Alaric rushed to stop his father urgently.
"Alaric! I am tired let's talk in the morning!" Kent sternly said while he turned and glared at Alaric. This made Alaric stop in his tracks and silently nod his head. Kent nodded before he moved again.
Alaric silently bit his lips as he anxiously watches his fathers disappear back from view. It was only when he tasted his blood did he realize how he burst through the skin of his lower lip.
The unease inside of him was only growing. Little did Kent know, that this would be the last time Alaric would try to talk to him about his problems
There was not a medicine in the world that could help someone overcome regret. Because one of Alaric's problems bit him in the ass. Regardless that was the future Kent's problem.
'Gasp!' Aurora sat up gripping her throat. Her skin was caked with sweat. Her mouth open wide. In Aurora's mind, she could hear herself screaming.
But in reality, it was only the sound of her gasping was heard, Jace who was on the next bed wasn't really asleep due to the constant pain. He heard her gasp and assumed she was dreaming but he still opened his eyes and turned over to glance at her.
What he saw was Aurora gripping her throat and gasping. Panicked he hurriedly sat up but a huge wave of pain washed over him.
'Argh!' Jace could help but grunt out in pain but forced himself to endure it and called out to Aurora.
"Rory! Aurora?" Jace called out somehow that seemed to do the trick because after he called out to her. Aurora's eyes opened, it was teary as her panicked eyes flickered around the room before they landed on Jace.
"Breathe, Ror you need to breathe!" Jace hurriedly told her. As he clutched his aching side, Jace knew he could move right now it will send him tumbling.
This was the only way he can help Aurora right now.
"You need to breathe Ror! MISS NAILIAH! IT'S RORY!" Jace took a deep breath before he shouted.
That action alone left him breathless and in pain.
