It was soon afternoon, Xavier had not returned to the room after Kiara had. She'd only seen him at breakfast when he stole her food. He had become preoccupied with Zander.
Several new members had been recruited to the Sirius Bright Pack. Today, they were expected to demonstrate their talents and abilities to the Alphas, after which they would be allocated their roles and tasks. Some had already shifted into wolves. They were all brimming with capabilities. Everyone's faces were filled with dignity and pride as the gorgeous woman approached the field with her positive energy.
"Luna"
When Kiara arrived with Jennifer and Lena, the old and new pack members who had gathered on the grounds bowed to her. It was late afternoon, and the new Luna of the pack had been asked to watch the fight. It was an honor to fight in the presence of both the Alphas and Luna. The Luna, on the other hand, could always decline, but Kiara had opted to join quickly as her lessons ended.
They received a beautiful smile from Kiara as a welcome, who immediately spotted the Alpha twins sitting in their respective chairs. Xavier's eyes were already on her even though he had been talking to Kaiden. She was wearing a light blue dress that accentuated her curves. Beta Kaiden had been standing next to Xavier and, as usual, Tyler had taken his place next to Zander. His gaze went to Xavier, who had been devouring his woman with his eyes.
"This is why I suggested you have lunch. I was afraid that you would eat your woman with your eyes," Zander chided. Kaiden and Tyler chuckled but the Alpha had been watching Kiara’s every move as she had been getting closer to him, increasing his heartbeat.
“I have the same fear. Someday she will be eaten by me if she keeps looking at me with those eyes,” Xavier turned his gaze to his brother, who had no idea that he had spoken his thoughts out loud. What was going on? Instead of getting annoyed, he had been lost in his own world.
Kiara had a seat next to Xavier that was just for her. This was what she had been born to be, his Luna. She began to approach him while still staring up at him. Why wasn't he avoiding eye contact with her today? She licked her lips in response to his arousal. If he continued on like this, then she had no idea how long she could control her desires.
"Will the Luna also take part in the fight? It would be amusing," someone shouted in the crowd, but it was plainly heard by everyone. Xavier scowled, casting a lethal glare at the she-wolf for uttering her stupid thoughts in public. Dean growled, looking at the seat that had been empty. Kiara's feet had come to a halt at the unexpected question that caused everyone to cheer for her to join them for a little while. They were, as predicted, eager to learn more about their new Luna. Could a stunningly beautiful, 5.7-foot-tall woman with a fair and slim figure like a princess know how to fight?
"That's a great idea, Luna Kiara. Jennifer and Lena will also have a good time with the pack members that have joined us today. If you wish, you are welcome to join the fight." Stephen stepped onto the training grounds and took his seat, bowing respectfully to the Alphas and Luna.
Even though she had not responded, Kiara had observed her Beta and Gamma female's enthusiasm. Jennifer was not going to fight but she was going to bring Kiara water and other things she might need. Every wolf's gaze was on her, the new pack members admired her. If she declined the invitation in this state, she may be sneered at.
"True. There's no harm in having some fun." Kiara smiled. Stephen applauded her since Kiara's participation in the event had elevated everyone's excitement, energy, and confidence. Xavier had a sour frown on his face as he knew what was about to transpire would drive him and his wolf insane.
Luna had to pick her opponent. Lena included every potential candidate who had already chosen their companions. Kiara had just joined, so she needed to choose one as well. Those that wished to confront Kiara took a step forward. Candidates stepped forward, and they consisted of both male and female candidates. Two males and two females, to be exact, she might choose any of the warriors.
When Xavier realized Cole was among them, his muscles tensed. That young wolf was unquestionably a fucking nuisance. He was all over her again. The Alpha returned his gaze to his mate, who had already tied her long, beautiful brown hair into a messy bun, allowing the others to glimpse her smooth skin. Kiara had no desire to dirty her hair with dirt and mud. Xavier's mark gleamed in the sunlight on her neck, but it also enhanced her elegance.
She had also changed her clothes. She was dressed in a pink sleeveless top with black shorts. It was better than the others, who had been displaying too much skin, but the Luna, like the lotus amid the mud, was the most beautiful. Why did she have to do all of that? It was just a small event, not a real fight.
"Please select your opponent, Luna," Stephen requested. From the corner of his eyes, the Alpha looked at Stephen. The elder was once again suspiciously active.
Yet when the time had come to do this with Petra, that old man had been suffering from a headache. According to Stephen's claim, he had been very unwell and had been unable to get out of bed. Stephen's unwillingness to attend the combat program to greet the new members had been a shame to the previous Luna. Petra had also taken part. This time, though, his Grandfather was ecstatic. His clapping and voice were convincing enough to fool anyone into thinking that there was a young wolf under his old skin. How was it that he wasn't sick this time?! He appeared to have so much energy that he could easily overcome four-ranked males!
Also, what's the deal with his twin? Zander, who used to argue with Grandfather, was now clapping with Stephen when Kiara had agreed. Everyone had been acting strangely, or was it just Alpha Xavier who was overthinking?
Everyone waited with bated breath for Kiara to pick her opponent. Cole was already ecstatic and had decided to be gentle with her. He was prepared to lose if he had the chance to fight with Kiara! It meant a lot to him. It would be almost like a triumph.
Xavier observed Kiara raising her hand to select her opponent before she chose. He received a mind-link from one of the pack members assigned to be a prison guard.
"Alpha, I'd like to request your presence here. Something is not right," the guard informed him. Xavier and Zander exchanged glances. The Beta and Gamma had also obtained the group mind-link and were prepared to accompany them. Zander and Kaiden were the first to leave the ground. Tyler had followed Xavier, who had explained the scenario to his Grandpa before rising from his seat, so that Stephen could announce the winner and handle the situation if they were unable to return on time.
That's when Xavier came to a halt, only to discover that the crowd had unexpectedly quieted down. What's the issue? What was the reason for the deafening silence?
He turned around, noting that everyone was staring at him. That was when he noticed Kaira had pointed her finger at Xavier.
"I choose the Alpha as my opponent," Kiara declared, stunning everyone around her. She had dared to challenge the Alpha!
"You can't challenge the Alpha, Kiara," Jennifer whispered quietly into her ear.
"I wonder why?" Kiara raised her brows at Xavier.
"Because he isn't competing," Jennifer explained.
"They said I could pick anyone, but if you insist, I’ll want to select Cole..."
"Challenge accepted!" Xavier's voice resonated throughout the training field. Cole's expression, which had brightened when Kiara picked him, had turned sorrowful when Xavier accepted the challenge before she could finish her statement and seal his fate as her opponent. Did the Alpha hear her?
The Alpha began to make his move towards his Luna, while also glaring at the young wolf, whose melancholy irritated Xavier. Dean's ears were perked up since he could hear everything Jennifer and Kiara were saying. The Beta and Gamma females instantly excused themselves from the ground, as did all of the other candidates who had to pick each other as opponents. As the Alpha and Luna came face to face, the crowd erupted in praise and glee. Today, the pack was about to witness a historic event in which their Luna confronted Alpha, who readily accepted.
"Didn't I tell you there was nothing in the world that could be used to substitute for me?" Xavier furrowed his brow. She couldn't step away from him even if she tried. She had selected him, now she had no other alternative. He extended his hand to shake hands with Kiara, which was one of the norms. Kiara, who had not anticipated this cold man accepting the challenge, had been taken aback.
When Kiara was given the option of choosing her opponent, she would always choose to work with her mate. Even throughout the fight, only Xavier would be able to touch her. Even if it was only for fun, she would never willingly let another man touch her. Xavier, on the other hand, appeared to be taking the challenge quite seriously.
"How can I forget when you keep reminding me?" Kiara snickered, shaking his hand, which was as warm as it had always been. When Xavier heard his woman, the Alpha smirked. Kiara tried to pull her hand back, but was yanked forward by Xavier.
"What are you doing?" She gasped in surprise. Her breast collided with his hard chest as she was caged in his arms.
"Did you not challenge me to a fight?" he inquired.
"Yes, but shouldn't we shift into our wolves?" She was puzzled. He didn't seem to grasp the concept of a fight. People might be misled into thinking they were embracing each other.
"No need, I'd rather face you in my human form," Kiara's eyes widened as he revealed his plan. They had only five minutes, which was quickly flying by. If he wished to attack her in his human form, why was she still in his arms? She needed to break free since he had cleverly imprisoned her. Kiara used all of her might to break free from his grip and drag herself away to get into a fighting position to counter his move, but she was drawn back by the Alpha, who gripped her waist this time.
"What are you doing now?" She screamed. What sort of brawl was this, where he could grab her waist and ass in front of everyone?
“Don't move around too much or you will end up in pain,” he said, softly near her lips. For a second, Kiara thought that he was going to kiss her.
“Pain? Where?” She asked in confusion. He looked damn serious.
“In your stomach. If you fight during your period, you will get cramps, so don't struggle." Xavier advised, without looking at the other people who were not gossiping. Stephen had a huge smile on his face as he watched the new way these two were fighting. Unfortunately, Zander had missed it. Kiara was taken aback by surprise by Xavier’s remark. How had he found out that she had her period? And for how long?
"I'm not in pain right now." Kiara stated, "my period ended two days ago."
“What? It barely lasted two fucking days!" Xavier growled.
"Yes," Kiara responded, unsure of the true cause of his outburst.
"Then why didn't you tell me?" He drew her closer to him by roughly grabbing her ass, which felt like a slightly painful yet pleasurable massage. She had not been touched by him in this way in days.
"Do you have any clue how hard it’s been trying to keep myself together these past few days?" Xavier's emerald eyes were filled with intrigue and discontent. Kiara blinked her eyes open, realizing that he had not used her and thrown her as she had assumed. He had been avoiding her because she was menstruating. The Alpha had lived in misery while adhering to the contract that stated that he would not touch her during her cycles. He had expected it to last four or five days, but it had only lasted two. Fuck! He struggled not to become aroused by the scent of Kiara.
Dean had gone insane trying not to screw her whenever she passed by. Not once had he found a satisfying release with a hand job.
Kiara's lips curled into a small smile when she realized the reason for his refusal to return to their room. Sleeping anywhere other than his bed would most certainly have resulted in his having restless nights. Her nights had been the same as his.
"Don't smile. Why didn't you tell me?" Xavier arched his brows, offering a deadly glare that might frighten any other wolf, but not Kiara.
"You never asked me," she said, pushing him away from her using her full strength and releasing herself from his hold. The Alpha was distracted. This was her chance. She shifted into a fighting stance, unleashing punches and kicks at him, which he easily dodged. Kiara had planned to use her best move to knock him down on the ground, but the Alpha seized her leg with one hand. Was he aware of her next move?
Kiara realized she was now trapped. He could easily injure her leg, causing her to lose the fight. The Alpha, on the other hand, had other plans for his woman who really wanted a fight with him. He drew her leg back. Kiara struggled to control her movement. What was he doing? She was brought back into his arms just as she was able to gain control over her body. Kiara's back slammed into Xavier's chest this time. His hands were across her shoulders to her chest. It could not be a coincidence. His fingers had brushed her nipples.
Kiara couldn't even think about moving since she had just felt his hot breath on her neck. What was he doing? Xavier's teeth proceeded to her hair, where he carefully drew her hair tie out of her hair, causing her long hair to fall down all at once. Her hair, like it had done previously, obscured a portion of her lovely face. But Kiara's whole focus was on his lips, which had been traveling towards her mark.
"Be prepared for tonight, Kiara." Kiara shivered while letting out a soft moan when he kissed her mark playfully. The Alpha had already announced to his prey to accept his arrival that evening.
“Please…” Kiara closed her eyes and threw her head back, oblivious to the fact that the entire pack was watching them.
“Xavier!!!” Zander's shout resonated across the field, causing a sudden ruckus around them. When Xavier realized the danger that was approaching him, he cocked his brows and grimaced. When he withdrew his attention away from Kiara's neck, he saw an unknown wolf racing towards them. He was going to kill them since he was just a few meters away. Kiara had already pushed Xavier away before he could react.
“Kiara!!” Xavier roared, shifting into his wolf, as the wolf slung her away in a blink. Who was that wolf? Why had he attacked Kiara?
There was no chance that both of them would survive with the wolf's close proximity and speed, so Kiara pushed Xavier away. Xavier rushed like a man possessed to catch Kiara before her head hit the nearby wall, which would only lead to her death. Kiara screamed, closing her eyes, only to be knocked into something soft yet firm before collapsing on the ground. Xavier writhed in agony as the momentum from Kiara's body injured his bones severely. His body had not let her head touch the wall. He shifted back in a split second to cradle her head in his lap. But her eyes remained closed.
“Kiara! Open your eyes! Look at me,” Xavier yelled as he looked at her bloodied arm. The wolf's teeth had scraped her badly. “Call the doctor!” The Alpha gave the command, startling the others who had frozen in place to see their Alpha's rage.
****
Xavier had already notified Zander of his delayed arrival at the prison through mind-link. Obviously, the younger brother had made a comment to irritate his brother indicating that Kiara was the cause, but Xavier blocked him out. Alpha Zander and Beta Kaiden entered the cell unaware of the true circumstances within, as the guard had not finished his sentence. When they entered the jail, they discovered a blood-soaked corpse of the guy who had summoned them. The body of a wolf had been discovered on the floor of the cell. Who killed him? Many criminals were imprisoned behind silver bars, but just one cell door was open, with the remains of two more guards inside. When the Alpha's furious aura began to suffocate their wolves, the other criminals sought to cower in the darkness of their cells. Were they the ones who had done this?!
"I believe a prisoner has escaped from the prison, Alpha!" Kaiden exclaimed. The fugitive's smell lingered in the cell. He'd been there for a few seconds prior to their arrival. But how could this happen? There was only one way in and out of the prison. It was through the main gate, yet neither the Alpha nor the Beta noticed the offender fleeing. "Zander, what's wrong?" Kaiden asked. Then he turned to face the Alpha, who was unusually quiet after witnessing the bloodshed of one of his men. He arched his brows, following Zander's attention to his left, where Alpha's emerald eyes had been boring a large fiery hole. “Fuck!" The Beta roared, realizing that the criminal had escaped through a small door that had been sealed off for 20 years! “How did that fucker breakthrough that?!” Kaiden cursed. Zander's muscles clenched. Unfortunately, the door opened to the back side of the pack property. If that fucker had no intention of running away from the pack that meant he would be heading to the training grounds.
Kaiden sprinted after Zander, who dashed out of the prison in quest after the escaped wolf. Before he had the chance to murder anybody on his way, the Alpha had already mind-linked several of his men to be on the lookout for the criminal. Unfortunately, he was still unable to mind-link with Xavier, since his brother had blocked him. No! This was not a good time to block each other. No one could have predicted how things would turn out today. How the fuck had that wolf broken out of the cell? He could not have done it alone. Zander was too far away, only Xavier could intervene and apprehend the culprit in time.
Due to the heinous acts of all the convicts imprisoned in the jail. Many of them had been sentenced to life in prison, while others had been sentenced to death. Every single one of them harbored a grudge against both of the Alphas.
Pack members were constantly updating him on the criminal wolf's location. Kaiden and the others continued to devise a strategy on how to capture the wolf alive. There was no way that they would simply let him die after he murdered the guards. The culprit had, as predicted, go straight for the training grounds. Why? He could have chosen to run and save his own skin. So why had he gone to where Xavier and Kiara were? Zander ran to the training field, increasing his pace in an attempt to apprehend the convict, but it was already too late.
"Xavier!!!"
Zander yelled to warn his brother of the impending danger that had set out to murder him, but it was already too late. Surprisingly, Kiara, who had seen the mad wolf barreling towards them, protected Xavier without regard for her own life, causing the wolf to attack her. Everyone's breath came to a halt in horror for a moment. Zander was frozen for a split second as he watched Kiara's figure being tossed away like a doll. She was close to death. On the one hand, Xavier completely forgot about himself and instinctively moved to protect Kiara, utterly oblivious to the fact that a wild wolf had made up his mind to murder him.
Zander became enraged. The she-wolf who had saved his brother's life was now in jeopardy. Kiara was the only one who had been able to persuade Xavier to join them in the dining room after all these years. Xavier had always pushed people away, but thanks to her, he was beginning to accept someone. She had not only been his brother's second chance, but also the lady who could really turn him back into a human! Zander believed it, and now this fucking psychotic beast had attempted to murder his brother's mate. He had no right to live now. He'd serve hell for hurting his family.
Evan, Zander's wolf, took over him as he changed in a flash to kill the wolf that was about to attack his brother and sister-in-law again. Without being given a command, the other pack members, including Kaiden and Tyler, shifted to kill the insane one.
But they were a considerable distance away, the escaped wolf was ready to strike Xavier and Kiara from behind. Kiara's wounded arm had Xavier's full attention, he had commanded that a Doctor be called. A few members who had been worried for their Luna had been badly affected by Alpha's wrath. For a split second, Zander worried about what would happen if Kiara died. He would never be able to piece Xavier back together after that. Yes, she was simply a surrogate for him, but they shared a mate bond. If she died, Dean would suffer greatly. It would most likely be even worse than when Xavier had rejected Petra.
Zander accelerated his pace. He was only a few meters away from the bastard wolf when an unfamiliar grey wolf struck the criminal in the leg. Who was that valiant wolf? He sunk his teeth into the leg of the convict until he bled and yelled out in agony, but the criminal wolf was thirsty for the blood of the Alpha and Luna. He kicked the grey wolf as he charged toward Xavier and Kiara on his wounded leg, only to be dragged away by Zander.
In a split second, the criminal wolf lost his ears as his body was thrown into a nearby wall by the Alpha, who had just shown the wolf his most deadly maneuver. The new pack members were terrified at witnessing the combined rage of the twin Alpha’s, but it was far from over. The wolf whimpered in agony over his lost ears and a few fractured bones, but he didn't shout, since his eyes bore Zander's furious green gaze. Evan's roar rang in what was left of his ears before his throat was torn open.
“Open your eyes, Kiara! I dare you to die! Look at me,” Xavier murmured as he wrapped a scarf around her bleeding arm. Her blood loss was heavy.
“Xavier…” Xavier stopped, as he watched Kiara open her eyes weakly.
“I am okay,” she responded, feeling his fingers wipe the corner of her eyes, which were wet due to the pain. Xavier's face was red from taking hard, furious breaths.
“Don't close your eyes. Don't you dare die on me,” Xavier repeated, lifting her in his arms and carrying her back into the pack house. He had been listening to everything that had been going on around them. He stopped and watched as Zander ripped the wolf’s throat out but Xavier’s revenge had not been completed yet. “Give me his head!” Dean demanded of Evan. Evan smirked, sunk his teeth into the flesh until they were deep into the bone, then the criminal's wolf's head was separated from his torso. Zander hurled the criminal's head like garbage at Xavier's feet before kicking his chest, releasing the rest of the rage that had been stored in his veins.
Everyone returned to their human forms and promptly offered Zander football shorts. Xavier averted his gaze from his twins as he marched away with Kiara in his arms, smashing the criminal's head under his heel. Xavier looked down at Kiara's closed eyes and the tears that had been flowing through the corners of her eyes. He pulled her closer to his chest.
"You are not allowed to die," Dean growled with Xavier.
